What is on the software?
Course Description
The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course is totally redesigned for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital. Through the ACLS course, providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.
ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
HeartCode ACLS –
Every year thousands of working healthcare professionals and first responders throughout the World renew their commitment to excellence by renewing their American Heart Association ACLS provider cards. But there are times when learners, instructors and administrators find traditional training courses inconvenient due to the realities of everyday working life. HeartCode ACLS provides an alternative. It’s the only professional e-learning system where successful outcome results in an AHA course completion card. This self-directed ACLS learning program allows learners to practice techniques at their own pace and to receive feedback and evaluation of their skills in less time and at less cost than traditional methods. The HeartCode ACLS Anywhere Program consists of two parts. The first is the software based cognitive component that allows the users to work through the ACLS training curriculum at their own pace. The second part is the very important skills verification process, which can only be performed by an AHA ACLS, certified instructor through an AHA ACLS Training Center. With over 20 hours of educational content, the HeartCode ACLS Anywhere software contains all of the lessons from the ACLS texts, with convenient references. Learners can review all of the material from start to finish or focus on the topics they feel they need to spend more time on. HeartCode ACLS Anywhere uses micro simulation technology to present realistic patient scenarios. Students are presented with cases and are required to interact with the program to assess the patient, formulate a treatment plan base on ACLS guidelines, and provide treatment(s). The patient will react accordingly to the treatment provided – good or bad. Upon completion of a given scenario, the student is presented with a detailed debriefing, which includes an account of their actions, both correct and incorrect, and suggestions for improvement. All appropriate reference material is hyperlinked to the debriefing so a single click will take the student to the additional information needed for remediation.

How do I determine if any computer meets the minimum system requirements?
Click START on your computer, then go to the Control Panel. Then open or double click on the System icon. The information box will include the following information: amount of RAM, Operating System and CPU (Central Processing Unit).
To determine how much free space is on the hard drive, open or double click on the My Computer icon and right click with your mouse on the hard drive letter ‘C:’. Choose Properties. A chart will show the amount of ‘used space’ and ‘free space’.
Due to the real-time video interaction of the program, a sound card and speakers are required. If there is a speaker icon by the clock on the lower right hand portion of the monitor, then there is a sound card on the computer. Make sure the volume is turned up and the speakers are on.
If the computer is running Windows 98/ME/2000, it will need Media Player 7 or higher. This is a free upgrade that can be obtained using Windows Update. Here is the link: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
If you are still unsure if the computer will meet the minimum system requirements, please contact us.

What happens when the computer work is completed?
When all required parts of the computer-based work are successfully completed, the student will receive a message that the program is completed. Then the student will go online to connect to our server to transmit the test results. A completion report may be requested and faxed to an employer at this time, if needed. An ACLS Provider card will be issued after successful completion of a signed Authorized Airway Management Skills Checklist has been received by Life Support Anywhere. Users will continue to have access to the cases, the lessons, and the reference materials until the 32 hours have been used. Once the student has successfully completed all four modules, only the demo program is available.

I have completed the course, when will I receive a card?
Although it is uncommon it can take up to 30 days to receive the card. Most people receive their cards with in two weeks. A confirmation report can be provided to an employer, which states current certification and awaiting delivery of actual card. It has been our experience that this report usually satisfies most employers until the certification card is delivered.

Is the course only for renewal?
No, this course is not only for renewal. While the program was developed with the experienced practitioner in mind, individuals can decide the learning methods that are best for them. The AHA recognizes the value of a new or inexperienced ACLS provider participating in a traditional classroom-based ACLS class, which provides instructor feedback and group interaction; however, we also offer the student an opportunity to talk to a live ACLS instructor via phone or email before, during, or after normal work hours.
